Terms of Service

Last Updated: June 21, 2026

Welcome to ScoreKit! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ScoreKit website, API, Unity SDK, and backend services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account, integrating our SDK, or accessing the Service, you ("Developer", "you", or "your") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

ScoreKit provides a Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) designed for independent game developers. We supply infrastructure, APIs, and SDKs to manage in-game leaderboards, player achievements, telemetry, and moderation tools.

ScoreKit is a tool for developers. We do not interact directly with the end-users (players) of your games. You are solely responsible for your game, its content, and how you interact with your players.

2. Account Registration and Security

  • Eligibility: You must be at least 18 years old to create a ScoreKit account.
  • API Keys: Upon registration, you will generate API keys (Public and Secret). You are entirely responsible for keeping your Secret Keys secure. Do not embed Secret Keys in client-side code, public repositories, or your shipped game binaries.
  • Account Responsibility: You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you suspect your API keys have been compromised, you must roll them immediately via the developer dashboard.

3. Subscriptions, Tiers, and Billing

  • Payment Processing: All paid tiers are billed via our third-party payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing to a paid tier, you agree to Stripe's terms and authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.
  • API Limits: Each billing tier includes specific rate limits and capacity constraints. If your game's API requests exceed your tier's limits, ScoreKit reserves the right to rate-limit (429 HTTP status) or temporarily suspend your endpoints until you upgrade your plan or the billing cycle resets.
  • Refunds: Because ScoreKit provides server infrastructure resources instantly upon integration, all subscription payments are non-refundable unless legally required in your jurisdiction.

4. Developer Responsibilities and Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the ScoreKit Service. Specifically, you will not:

  • Abuse the API: Intentionally spam, overload, or attempt to break the backend architecture, Redis caching layers, or PostgreSQL databases.
  • Malicious Software: Use ScoreKit to distribute malware, spyware, or facilitate illegal activities.
  • End-User Privacy: You must maintain and prominently display a Privacy Policy in your game that accurately discloses how you collect, use, and share player data (including data sent to ScoreKit). You agree to obtain any necessary consent from your players to transmit their IDs, display names, and gameplay metrics to our servers.

5. Content Moderation and Player Data

  • Data Ownership: You retain all rights to the game data, player scores, and achievements generated by your projects. ScoreKit does not claim ownership over your specific game data.
  • Moderation Tools: ScoreKit provides tools (like shadowbanning and data purging) to help you moderate cheaters and anomalies. You are solely responsible for how you use these tools. ScoreKit is not liable for player disputes arising from your moderation decisions.
  • Our Right to Purge: We reserve the right to delete, purge, or remove data from our servers if it violates these Terms, poses a security threat to our infrastructure, or belongs to an abandoned/unpaid project.

6. Uptime, Availability, and Disclaimers

We know how critical launch days are, and we strive to maintain the highest possible uptime. However:

  • "As-Is" Service: ScoreKit is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the reliability, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability of the Service.
  • Maintenance & Outages: We reserve the right to perform scheduled maintenance or emergency updates. While we will try to minimize disruptions, we do not guarantee 100% uptime.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScoreKit and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Lost profits or revenue from game downtime.
  • Loss of game data, leaderboard records, or player telemetry.
  • Issues arising from third-party tools (e.g., Unity engine updates breaking the SDK).

In no event shall ScoreKit's aggregate liability exceed the total amount paid by you to ScoreKit in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

8. Termination

  • By You: You may terminate your account and delete your projects at any time via the ScoreKit dashboard.
  • By Us: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms, fail to pay subscription fees, or if your integration poses a critical threat to our server stability.
